Why Should You Join LCBGH?

We're an Independent and Employer-Led Coalition on Healthcare

Application

The Lancaster County Business Group on Health, also known as LCBGH, is a non-profit employer coalition attempting to exert counter pressure on the causes of healthcare inflation. Employer coalitions represent the only local entities that focus solely on the cost of medical care and the quality issues that affect area employers.

What do we do? We try to highlight and influence healthcare in a way that contributes to affordable quality health care for area employers.

How do we do it? To achieve our goal, we sponsor many educational and informative seminars and various meetings. We also publish reports and a newsletter.

When and How did we start? We were incorporated in 1984. The business community founded LCBGH. However, relentless change and continually rising costs have united providers and insurers with business to develop a better working relationship in addressing the high cost of healthcare Healthcare providers were added to the LCBGH Board of Directors to promote collaborative dialogue.

How do we operate? We function as an affiliate of The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry but we have our own Board of Directors who are volunteers from our member companies. We raise our own funding.

By operating as an independent affiliate of The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry, we can share some of The Chamber's established resources, but not at the expense of compromising our freedom to maintain an independent agenda. Committees under the Chamber structure are subject to a more bureaucratic and time-consuming process.

LCBGH is also one of 67 employer coalitions across the country that belong to the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) based in Washington, DC. Our relationship with the National Business Coalition on Health keeps us abreast of national trends and federal legislative activity that might impact employers who sponsor employee benefit programs.

A recent LCBGH development is our Wellness White Paper and Toolkit, which is a step-by-step guide for employers of all sizes to develop onsite wellness initiatives. Our website has a glossary of health insurance terms and a set of answers to questions employees ask the most frequently about their health insurance.

This is an excellent reflection of our mission to advocate for an appropriate balance between the quality and cost of employee healthcare in Lancaster County by providing education on healthcare related issues; promoting cooperation among payers, providers, and insurers; and providing value-added services for our members.

Can you afford not to join LCBGH when health care costs keep climbing?

  • You support and become a part of the only employer-based community effort in the County that keeps cost/quality issues visible and encourages the dialogue that can keep costs down.
  • A unified effort is the only way to combat the inflationary spiral and educate the employer community.
  • Collaborative effort is the only way to reform and future progress in the cost and quality equation.
  • A unified, educated voice will lead to a better understanding of the changes that have shaped the current landscape, will help employers adapt to those changes and will empower and educate the community to modify those quality/cost issues that can be addressed.

LCBGH GOALS

  • Identify emerging trends in healthcare and their effect on the community, communicate them through educational efforts and facilitate solutions.

  • Reinforce the focus on a collaborative approach among payers, providers, and insurers

  • Be recognized as an advocate in the business community for promoting cooperation  among payers, providers, & insurers
